DESCRIPTION

Pinterest is a visual discovery and shopping inspiration platform with 619 million monthly active users (MAUs). Users come to Pinterest to browse ideas across categories like fashion, home decor, food, and beauty — typically without a specific product in mind — and the platform aims to convert that open-ended intent into action, such as clicking through to a retailer. Pinterest's core asset is its "Taste Graph," a network of billions of associations between content, searches, and user behavior built from years of human curation. Pinterest trains its AI recommendation models on this data to deliver personalized, shopping-relevant content. The platform is free to users; Pinterest makes virtually all of its revenue from digital advertising. Advertisers can buy across the full funnel — from brand awareness (CPM, video) to performance outcomes (CPC, CPA, ROAS bidding) — through an auction system. Revenue scales with ad impressions served and the price per impression. Pinterest's AI-powered campaign suite, Performance+, automates targeting and bidding, and advertisers using it see higher conversion rates. Geographically, US and Canada users are far more monetized than international users, even though roughly 83% of MAUs are outside North America — closing that gap is a key growth lever. Pinterest is also broadening its advertiser base beyond large retailers into mid-market and SMB advertisers. Pinterest operates as an asset-light business and recently agreed to acquire TV Scientific, a connected TV ad platform, marking its first move into third-party ad supply.
