DESCRIPTION

RBB Bancorp is the holding company for Royal Business Bank, a community bank focused on serving Asian-American businesses and individuals, with an emphasis on Chinese-American communities. The bank operates 24 branches across California, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Hawaii. RBB's core customers are small and middle-market businesses and their owners, primarily within Asian-centric communities, with a target loan size of $1M to $20M. RBB positions itself as a relationship-driven bank, offering quick credit decisions and flexible documentation for borrowers who may not fit conventional underwriting standards. The bank's ~$3.3B loan book is concentrated in real estate lending: roughly half in single-family residential (SFR) mortgages, predominantly non-QM (alternative documentation) loans targeted at Asian-American borrowers, and roughly 39% in commercial real estate. C&I and SBA lending make up a small but growing share of the portfolio. RBB earns primarily through net interest income, funding loans with retail deposits gathered through its branch network. The bank also generates fee income through gains on sale of SBA loan guarantees and SFR mortgages in the secondary market, loan servicing income, and trade finance fees. RBB historically grew through acquisitions, completing six whole-bank deals between 2011 and 2018, though organic growth is the current priority.
