Basanite manufactures basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) composite products used as concrete reinforcement, positioning its products as a non-corroding alternative to traditional steel rebar. Basanite's core product is BasaFlex, a BFRP rebar made from basalt rock that does not corrode, which Basanite argues extends the lifespan of concrete structures and reduces long-term maintenance costs. BasaFlex is also roughly one-quarter the weight of equivalent steel rebar, lowering freight and handling costs. Complementary products include BasaMix, chopped basalt fibers added directly into concrete, and BasaMesh, a geogrid mesh that replaces steel welded wire mesh. Basanite sells through third-party distributors and direct relationships with contractors, engineering firms, and government agencies. Basanite is a very early-stage company with significant going concern risk: as of year-end 2024, it had only two full-time employees, had closed its manufacturing facility in Florida, and is seeking roughly $6M in new funding to restart operations at a new Ohio facility. The path to profitability depends on securing that funding, building out proprietary pultrusion manufacturing capacity (the BasaMax system), and scaling production. Longer-term, Basanite is targeting infrastructure repair markets supported by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, where corrosion-resistant reinforcement has a clear application.
