DESCRIPTION

Bioxytran is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company developing two drug platforms: antiviral treatments using galectin inhibitors, and an oxygen-carrying molecule for stroke treatment. The company has no revenue and is entirely funded by external capital. Bioxytran's lead candidate is ProLectin-M, a chewable oral tablet derived from partially hydrolyzed guar gum. ProLectin-M works by blocking the galectin-3 protein on the SARS-CoV-2 spike to prevent the virus from entering healthy cells, targeting patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19. ProLectin-M has completed Phase 2 trials in India, and the FDA approved an IND for a U.S. Phase 3 trial in 2023, though the trial start is contingent on securing funding. Bioxytran is also developing ProLectin-I, an IV version for hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and ProLectin-F for ventilator-induced lung fibrosis, though neither has entered Phase 1 yet. Bioxytran's second platform is BXT-25, an acellular oxygen carrier made from modified camel hemoglobin, designed to deliver oxygen to brain tissue during ischemic stroke. BXT-25 has completed animal toxicity studies but has not yet filed an IND. Bioxytran's business model is to advance candidates through regulatory milestones and then license them to large pharmaceutical companies rather than commercializing directly. The company operates with only two full-time employees and estimates it needs an additional $30-35M to advance its programs to late-stage trials.
