DESCRIPTION

CDW is an IT reseller and solutions provider that sells hardware, software, and services to businesses, government agencies, schools, and healthcare organizations in the US, UK, and Canada. CDW sits in the middle of the IT supply chain — buying products from manufacturers and distributors and reselling them to end customers, often bundling in configuration, implementation, and managed services. CDW offers products from over 1,000 vendors, including Dell, Cisco, Microsoft, HP, and Nvidia, and positions itself as a vendor-neutral adviser. CDW sells through a direct sales force of roughly 10,500 customer-facing employees organized by customer vertical (corporate, small business, government, education, and healthcare). In FY25, hardware made up roughly 72% of net sales, software about 19%, and services about 9%. CDW makes money primarily on the spread between what it pays vendors and what it charges customers. Beyond the basic resale spread, CDW has been shifting its mix toward higher-margin revenue streams: netted-down revenues (cloud subscriptions and SaaS where CDW acts as an agent) represented about 36% of gross profit in FY25, and services have grown from roughly 5% of net sales in 2020 to about 9% in FY25. CDW's growth strategy focuses on expanding services, cloud and software, and AI solutions across the full IT stack. CDW has made acquisitions to build capability, including Mission Cloud Services and Lexicon Tech Solutions.
