DESCRIPTION

Veracyte is a molecular diagnostics company focused on cancer genomics. Its tests analyze tumor biology to help physicians make treatment decisions — most commonly determining whether a patient needs aggressive treatment or can safely avoid it. Veracyte performs its tests in its own CLIA-certified labs in California, bills third-party payers (Medicare and commercial insurers) directly, and reports results back to ordering physicians. Revenue is driven by test volume and average selling price per test. Veracyte's two core products are Decipher Prostate and Afirma. Decipher Prostate uses whole-transcriptome analysis and machine learning to assess prostate tumor biology across the full cancer risk spectrum — from active surveillance decisions to metastatic chemotherapy choices. It is the only gene expression test with NCCN Level 1 evidence for prostate cancer, and delivered roughly 100,000 tests in 2025. Afirma uses RNA sequencing to classify indeterminate thyroid nodules, identifying which patients are benign and can avoid unnecessary surgery. Together, these two tests generate nearly all of Veracyte's revenue. Veracyte's growth strategy centers on deeper penetration of its core markets while launching new products. Near-term, Veracyte is expanding Decipher into the metastatic prostate cancer setting. In 2026, Veracyte plans to launch TrueMRD — a whole-genome AI-powered minimal residual disease platform for bladder cancer monitoring — and a U.S. lab-developed version of Prosigna, a breast cancer recurrence test. Longer term, Veracyte is developing Percepta, a non-invasive nasal swab test for lung nodule risk stratification. Veracyte's core strategy is to generate clinical evidence — publications, guideline inclusions, prospective trial data — to drive physician adoption and payer reimbursement coverage.
