DESCRIPTION

Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) makes autonomous maritime systems for surveillance, data collection, and offshore power generation. OPT's core products are the PowerBuoy, a floating offshore platform that generates renewable energy from wave, solar, and wind sources to power remote sensors and payloads; the WAM-V, a family of unmanned surface vehicles used for hydrographic surveys, port security, and maritime surveillance; and Merrows, a command-and-control software platform that integrates data from OPT's hardware and third-party sensors into a unified operational picture using AI-enabled anomaly detection. Together, these three platforms form an integrated Maritime Domain Awareness system. OPT sells to U.S. defense and intelligence agencies, allied foreign militaries, offshore energy operators, and environmental monitoring organizations. OPT generates revenue through outright equipment sales, leases, and recurring service subscriptions structured around three delivery models: Robotics as a Service (WAM-V access), Data as a Service (persistent maritime surveillance data), and Power as a Service (offshore renewable power). WAM-V sales and leases are the primary revenue driver today, while the PowerBuoy and Merrows platforms are still ramping commercially. OPT's growth strategy focuses on geographic expansion into the Middle East and Latin America through regional distributors, and deeper penetration of U.S. and allied defense programs, including the U.S. Navy's Project Overmatch initiative.
