DESCRIPTION

Remark Holdings is a small AI software company focused on computer vision. Its core product, the Smart Safety Platform (SSP), analyzes live video feeds to detect people, objects, and behaviors — including weapons, violence, fire, smoke, and unauthorized access — and generates real-time alerts for customers. Remark sells the SSP to enterprises and governments across verticals including construction, schools, public safety, retail, and transportation. The company also sells hardware — cameras, edge computing devices, and mobile camera units — when customers need to supplement their existing infrastructure, though its focus is on software and recurring SaaS revenue. Remark's SaaS model charges customers on a per-camera, per-solution basis, targeting high-margin, recurring subscription revenue. In practice, a meaningful share of revenue has come from project-based hardware installations, particularly in China, making reported results lumpy. Remark has historically derived the vast majority of revenue from China, deploying smart construction, school, and residential solutions there, but since 2022 has been pivoting toward the U.S., U.K., Brazil, and the Middle East. To expand its reach, Remark has built channel partnerships with Microsoft, Nvidia, and Intel to leverage their existing distribution. With only 46 full-time employees and a highly concentrated customer base, Remark is a very small company, and has been loss-making, relying on convertible debentures and an equity line of credit to fund operations.
