Herc Holdings (operating as Herc Rentals) is one of the largest equipment rental companies in North America, renting construction, industrial, and specialty equipment on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to contractors, industrial operators, infrastructure projects, and commercial facilities. Core fleet includes aerial work platforms, earthmoving equipment, material handling equipment, trucks and trailers, air compressors, and lighting. Beyond general rental, Herc operates two specialty platforms: ProSolutions, which provides power generation, climate control, pumping, and trench shoring equipment for complex or emergency projects; and ProContractor, which focuses on professional-grade tools for contractors. Herc sells directly through a national sales force, local branch staff, and a digital platform (ProControl) for fleet management and reservations. Revenue is driven by fleet volume on rent, rental rates, and fleet mix — with higher-margin specialty equipment commanding better economics. Profitability is sensitive to revenue levels given a partly fixed cost structure, with margins peaking in Q2–Q3 and compressing in Q4–Q1. Herc also generates secondary revenue from selling used equipment as it rotates fleet. Growth is centered on M&A, specialty expansion, and technology investment. In June 2025, Herc completed the acquisition of H&E Equipment Services, adding roughly 160 branches and bringing the total to 602 locations across 46 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces. Herc expects approximately $125M in annualized cost synergies and $390M in gross revenue synergies from the H&E deal over three years.
