DESCRIPTION

BlueLinx is a wholesale "two-step" distributor of building products in the U.S., meaning it buys products from manufacturers, warehouses them, and sells and delivers them to dealers, pro dealers, cooperatives, and specialty distributors — not to end users directly. BlueLinx operates 57 branch locations covering all 50 states, offering just-in-time delivery, job site delivery, and value-added services like engineered wood product (EWP) design and milling. BlueLinx sells through two channels: warehouse and reload sales (~81% of net sales) and direct sales (~19%), where product ships from the manufacturer without BlueLinx taking physical possession. BlueLinx carries two product categories: specialty products (~69% of net sales, over 80% of gross profit), including EWP, siding, millwork, and outdoor living products; and structural products (~31% of net sales), including commodity lumber, plywood, and OSB. Specialty products carry materially higher gross margins than structural products, and BlueLinx's core strategy is to shift its mix toward specialty and away from commoditized structural products. BlueLinx markets some specialty products under its own private labels, including the onCENTER EWP brand and PrimeLinx millwork brand. BlueLinx is pursuing several growth initiatives, including expanding into the multifamily channel, growing national accounts, and geographic expansion through greenfields and M&A — most recently acquiring Disdero, a premium specialty distributor in the Pacific Northwest generating ~$100M in annual net sales at gross margins in the high-20s percent range.
