ABVC BioPharma is an early-stage biotech company developing a pipeline of botanical drug candidates and one medical device, with no approved commercial products. ABVC's pipeline spans two therapeutic areas: CNS (targeting Major Depressive Disorder, adult ADHD, and depression in cancer patients) and oncology/hematology (targeting Myelodysplastic Syndrome, pancreatic cancer, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, and Triple Negative Breast Cancer). The CNS drugs are based on PDC-1421, a botanical norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor derived from Polygala extract, while several oncology candidates are based on Maitake mushroom extract. ABVC also has a medical device candidate, Vitargus, a vitreous substitute used in vitrectomy surgery. The CNS candidates are the most advanced — ABV-1504 completed Phase II with positive results, and ABV-1505 has completed Phase II Part 1. ABVC's intended business model is to develop drug candidates through Phase II in partnership with academic medical centers, then out-license to larger pharma companies who bear the cost of Phase III trials and commercialization, in exchange for licensing fees and royalties. Current revenue comes from IP out-licensing and CDMO services through its BioKey subsidiary, which manufactures small-scale drug products for clinical trials and a Maitake mushroom dietary supplement. ABVC is a very small operation with 19 employees and remains pre-revenue on its drug candidates.
