DESCRIPTION

Genetic Technologies is an Australian molecular diagnostics company offering two product lines: predictive genetic risk tests sold to healthcare professionals under the geneType brand, and direct-to-consumer (DTC) lifestyle DNA tests sold online under the EasyDNA and AffinityDNA brands. The geneType product is a multi-risk polygenic risk score (PRS) test that assesses a patient's genetic predisposition to nine serious diseases — including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, coronary artery disease, and type 2 diabetes — using panels of common DNA variants combined with clinical risk factors. Unlike traditional hereditary cancer tests (e.g., BRCA testing), geneType targets sporadic disease risk in the general population. Tests are ordered by healthcare professionals, and Genetic Technologies operates on a direct-pay model where patients pay out-of-pocket rather than through insurance. EasyDNA and AffinityDNA are lifestyle and ancestry DNA tests sold directly to consumers across more than 40 countries, with lab work outsourced to third-party contractors. Genetic Technologies acquired EasyDNA in 2021 and AffinityDNA in 2022, and these DTC businesses are now the primary near-term revenue focus following a 2024 restructuring. The company is shifting to a capital-light model, scaling back in-house R&D and relying on partnerships to commercialize geneType in the U.S. rather than maintaining a direct sales force. DTC products are sold through the company's websites and Amazon, while geneType is distributed through employer group and pharmacy partnerships.
