DESCRIPTION

iRobot designs and sells robotic floor cleaning products, primarily under the Roomba brand. The core product is the Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner, which autonomously vacuums floors. iRobot has expanded into 2-in-1 robots that vacuum and mop, and more recently into multi-function dock systems — stations that automatically empty debris, wash and dry mop pads, and recharge the robot, enabling extended autonomous cleaning with minimal human intervention. iRobot sells through retail partners and its own D2C channel, which has grown to roughly 25% of revenue. The company operates globally, with roughly half of revenue from international markets, primarily EMEA and Japan. iRobot's product line spans entry-level robots (below $300), mid-tier ($300–$499), and premium ($500+); the latter two together represented roughly 80% of robot sales in FY24. Accessories and consumables add a modest recurring revenue stream. iRobot outsources all manufacturing to contract manufacturers in China, Vietnam, and Malaysia, and a 2024 restructuring cut headcount by roughly 50% and shifted more engineering responsibility to contract partners, reducing both R&D and manufacturing costs. The business is highly seasonal, with roughly 54% of revenue in the second half of the year. iRobot's turnaround plan, called iRobot Elevate, centers on re-entering the multi-function dock segment, launching a broad product refresh across price tiers in 2025, and expanding gross margins toward the low-to-mid 30% range under its asset-light model.
