DESCRIPTION

Chunghwa Telecom is Taiwan's largest telecom operator, offering mobile, fixed broadband, and ICT services to consumers and enterprises. On the consumer side, Chunghwa provides postpaid and prepaid mobile services, fixed broadband through its HiNet brand (52.2% ISP market share), IPTV through its MOD platform, and OTT video through Hami Video. Chunghwa holds roughly 40% mobile subscriber market share, making it the clear leader in Taiwan's three-player mobile market. On the enterprise side, Chunghwa provides ICT services including internet data center (IDC) hosting, cloud services, cybersecurity, and 5G private networks — holding over 70% market share in IDC services in Taiwan. Chunghwa sells to consumers through over 400 self-operated stores and online, while enterprise customers are served by a dedicated business group. Revenue is primarily recurring, driven by mobile and fixed broadband subscriptions, with growth coming from 5G migration (which commands a roughly 40% monthly fee uplift over 4G), broadband speed-tier upgrades, and expanding ICT services. ICT revenue has grown from roughly 13% to 15% of total revenue over the past few years and is management's primary growth focus. Chunghwa is also Taiwan's largest submarine cable operator and is pursuing international expansion, including AIDC construction projects for Taiwanese companies expanding to the U.S. and Southeast Asia. The business is capital-intensive, but Chunghwa has passed peak 5G CapEx and is now redirecting investment toward IDC and submarine cable infrastructure.
