DESCRIPTION

Bed Bath & Beyond (formerly Overstock.com) is a pure-play e-commerce retailer selling home goods through two primary websites: bedbathandbeyond.com, which targets life-event shoppers (first home, wedding, new baby) across furniture, bedding, bath, and décor; and Overstock.com, which is being repositioned toward affluent deal-seekers for premium and luxury goods. The company also operates an early-stage relaunch of the buybuy BABY brand. Nearly all transactions run through a drop-ship model where third-party vendors ship directly to customers, keeping the business asset-light with minimal owned inventory. The company earns product margin on e-commerce sales, with gross margins currently around 24–25%. Beyond e-commerce, Bed Bath & Beyond owns roughly 40% of The Brand House Collective (formerly Kirkland's Home), a ~330-store home décor chain that it plans to merge with in 2026 to create an omnichannel business. The company also holds a portfolio of blockchain investments, including a ~53% stake in tZERO, a digital securities platform, and ~23% in GrainChain, a supply chain platform. Management's long-term strategy is to build a "home ecosystem" across three pillars: e-commerce and physical retail, home financial services (insurance, mortgages, brokerage), and home services and installation — with the latter two expected to carry materially higher margins than the core retail business.
