DESCRIPTION

Hope Bancorp is the holding company for Bank of Hope, a California state-chartered commercial bank headquartered in Los Angeles and the largest Korean-American bank in the U.S. Bank of Hope operates as a single commercial banking segment, taking in deposits and making loans to small and middle-market businesses, with a particular focus on Korean-American and broader multi-ethnic business communities. The loan portfolio is anchored by commercial real estate (CRE) loans across property types including hotels, retail, industrial, and multifamily, and commercial & industrial (C&I) loans for working capital, business acquisitions, and other business needs. Bank of Hope also originates SBA loans, selling the guaranteed portions into the secondary market and retaining servicing income. The bank earns the spread between interest collected on loans and investment securities and interest paid on deposits. Key profitability drivers include loan volume, net interest margin, and deposit cost management. Non-interest income includes SBA gain-on-sale fees, FX and international banking fees, and customer interest rate swap fees. Bank of Hope operates 74 branches concentrated in California, Hawaii, and New York/New Jersey, with the Hawaii presence established through the April 2025 acquisition of Territorial Savings Bank, which added low-cost retail deposits and residential mortgage loans. The bank's growth strategy centers on hiring commercial relationship managers, expanding into specialized lending verticals like healthcare and entertainment, building out treasury management capabilities, and deepening relationships with Korean companies investing in U.S. manufacturing.
