DESCRIPTION

BAB is a small franchisor of bagel and muffin retail bakery cafés operating under two brands: Big Apple Bagels and My Favorite Muffin. Big Apple Bagels locations serve fresh-baked bagels, cream cheese spreads, bagel sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies, and gourmet coffee in stores typically 1,500–2,000 sq ft. My Favorite Muffin locations bake 20–25 muffin varieties daily from over 125 recipes alongside gourmet coffee, with some locations also serving bagel sandwiches. BAB also offers Brewster's Coffee and SweetDuet frozen yogurt as add-ons within existing franchise units. As of November 2025, BAB had 63 total units across 18 states, concentrated in the Midwest and Western U.S. BAB owns no stores itself, keeping its corporate team to just 12 people. BAB earns revenue primarily through a 5% royalty on franchisee net sales, one-time franchise fees of $25,000–$30,000 per new location, and sales of licensed products like My Favorite Muffin baking mix and Brewster's Coffee to franchisees and approved customers. Because BAB owns no stores, its profitability depends directly on total system sales across its franchise network — more units and higher per-unit sales drive higher royalty income.
