DESCRIPTION

Prudential is a life insurance and asset management company focused on Asia and Africa. Its core business is selling long-term savings and protection products — including investment-linked and participating savings policies, critical illness coverage, and medical insurance — to consumers across more than a dozen Asian markets, with a smaller presence in Africa. Prudential's largest market is Hong Kong, which serves both domestic customers and Mainland Chinese visitors attracted by USD-denominated savings products and critical illness coverage. Other key markets include Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Prudential sells primarily through two channels: a direct agency force of roughly 65,000 active agents, and bancassurance partnerships with banks including CITIC Bank, Standard Chartered, and Bank Syariah Indonesia. The agency channel tends to generate higher margins and a better health and protection product mix, while bancassurance drives higher volume in savings products. Prudential also operates Eastspring Investments, an asset management business serving institutional and retail clients across Asia, and holds a stake in ICICI Prudential AMC in India. Prudential makes money by writing new policies and managing a large book of existing policies, earning the spread between investment returns on policyholder assets and the cost of policyholder liabilities. Key growth initiatives include expanding the agency force to 80,000–90,000 active agents, building out proprietary health capabilities, and fully activating the Bank Syariah Indonesia bancassurance partnership to address Indonesia's underpenetrated Muslim consumer base.
