DESCRIPTION

ICICI Bank is India's second-largest private sector bank by assets, offering commercial banking products and financial services to retail, business, and corporate customers. The core business is lending and deposit-taking in India, with a loan book split across retail (~53%), corporate (~20-25%), business banking (~17-18%), and rural (~6%) segments. The retail book is dominated by home loans, with the remainder in auto loans, personal loans, and credit cards. ICICI earns primarily through net interest income (the spread between loan yields and deposit costs), fee income from transaction banking, FX, loan processing, and insurance and investment product distribution, and to a lesser extent, subsidiary dividends and treasury gains. ICICI operates a 6,983-branch network across India, supplemented by digital channels that handle roughly 72% of trade transactions. Beyond banking, ICICI holds majority stakes in ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, ICICI Prudential Asset Management, and ICICI Securities. Internationally, ICICI maintains a small presence (~2-3% of loans) focused on NRIs, multinationals with India links, and cross-border trade finance. ICICI's growth priorities center on business banking (SME lending, growing at ~30% YoY), deepening retail relationships through cross-sell, and expanding its branch network, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas.
