MercadoLibre earns commerce revenue through marketplace fees, logistics fees, and advertising, and earns fintech revenue through payment acquiring fees, net interest margin on loans, and asset management fees. The company is currently investing ahead of profitability in free shipping expansion, credit card issuance, first-party inventory, and advertising — areas management estimates are creating roughly 5-6 percentage points of margin pressure — while betting these investments deepen the ecosystem and drive long-term share gains.
