DESCRIPTION

Sun Life Financial is a Canada-based diversified financial services company offering life, health, and dental insurance, wealth management, and asset management products globally. Sun Life operates through four segments: Canada, U.S., Asia, and Asset Management. In Canada, Sun Life sells group health and benefits, individual life and health insurance, group retirement services, and individual wealth. In the U.S., Sun Life runs group benefits (life, disability, voluntary), a large dental benefits business via DentaQuest, and a medical stop-loss business that provides catastrophic coverage to self-insured employers. In Asia, Sun Life sells individual life, health, and wealth products across eight markets through agency, bancassurance, and direct-to-consumer channels. The Asset Management segment includes MFS Investment Management, a Boston-based active equity and fixed income manager with ~$635B in AUM, and SLC Management, an alternatives platform covering real estate, infrastructure, private credit, and fixed income with ~$194B in fee-earning AUM. Sun Life earns revenue from three sources: insurance premiums (collecting premiums and paying claims, with profitability driven by the spread between premiums and actual claims), net investment income (investing general fund assets in fixed income, real estate, and alternatives), and fee income (asset-based fees from MFS and SLC Management). Sun Life's growth priorities include scaling SLC Management through acquisitions, growing Asia insurance sales, building out U.S. health and dental, and deploying digital tools across distribution and operations.
