DESCRIPTION

Spectrum Brands is a branded consumer products company selling everyday household goods across three categories: pet care, home and garden pest control, and small home appliances. The company sells through major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowe's, as well as through e-commerce, food and drug stores, dollar stores, and specialty retailers. Global Pet Care (GPC) is the largest and strategically most important segment, selling companion animal products (chews, treats, stain and odor, grooming), dog and cat food under the IAMS and Eukanuba brands primarily in EMEA, and aquatics products (tanks, filtration, consumables) under the Tetra and GloFish brands. Home and Garden sells pest control, weed control, and insect repellent products under the Spectracide, Hot Shot, Cutter, and Repel brands; this segment is largely North American and highly seasonal. Home and Personal Care sells small kitchen appliances and personal care devices under the Black+Decker (licensed), Remington, and Russell Hobbs brands. Management views HPC as non-core and is pursuing a sale or separation of this segment. Spectrum Brands' long-term goal is to become a pure-play pet care and home and garden company, with an M&A aspiration focused on pet food, cat, and wellness categories. The company has a clean balance sheet with low leverage, which management views as a competitive advantage for pursuing acquisitions.
