DESCRIPTION

CF Bankshares is the holding company for CFBank, a nationally chartered boutique commercial bank with roughly $2.1B in total assets operating across five metro markets in Ohio and Indiana: Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Akron, and Indianapolis. CFBank focuses on serving closely held businesses and entrepreneurs, positioning itself as offering the product breadth of a large bank with the speed, access, and personal relationships of a smaller institution. CFBank's loan book totals approximately $1.8B and is heavily weighted toward commercial and commercial real estate (CRE) lending, which together account for roughly 72% of gross loans, with single-family residential mortgages making up most of the remainder. CFBank makes money primarily through net interest income — the spread between the interest rate earned on loans and the rate paid on deposits and borrowings — and to a lesser extent through loan origination fees and gains on mortgage loan sales into the secondary market. CFBank has been deliberately shifting its mix toward higher-yielding commercial and CRE loans and away from residential mortgage origination, having exited the direct-to-consumer mortgage business in 2021. CFBank also participates in SBA loan programs to serve small businesses while reducing credit risk through government guarantees. Funding relies heavily on rate-sensitive sources, including certificates of deposit and money market accounts, making deposit cost management central to profitability. Growth is pursued by deepening relationships within CFBank's existing five metro markets rather than expanding geographically, with loan officers serving as the primary business development channel.
