DESCRIPTION

Cytokinetics is a specialty biopharmaceutical company focused on developing drugs that modulate muscle function. Its sole commercial product is MYQORZO (aficamten), an oral cardiac myosin inhibitor approved in the U.S., EU, and China for adults with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), a condition where thickening of the heart muscle causes obstruction and limits exercise capacity. MYQORZO received FDA approval in December 2025 and became available for U.S. prescription in January 2026. Cytokinetics manages commercial operations itself in the U.S. and Europe, while relying on Sanofi for China and Bayer for Japan, earning royalties and milestones from those partners. The company targets a concentrated prescriber base of roughly 10,000 U.S. cardiologists. Beyond oHCM, Cytokinetics is running a Phase 3 trial of aficamten in non-obstructive HCM (nHCM), where no approved treatments currently exist, with top-line results expected in Q2 2026. A positive result could roughly double the addressable patient population. Additional pipeline programs include omecamtiv mecarbil, a cardiac myosin activator in Phase 3 for severe heart failure, and ulacamten, a next-generation cardiac myosin inhibitor in Phase 2 for a subset of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Cytokinetics is pre-profitability, having only recently launched its first commercial product, and funds operations through a combination of product revenue, partnership milestones, and royalty financing arrangements with Royalty Pharma.
