IES Holdings is an electrical and mechanical contractor that designs, installs, and maintains electrical, technology, and mechanical systems across four end markets. The two largest segments are Residential and Communications. In Residential, IES installs electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems for single-family homes and multi-family apartment complexes, primarily for national and regional homebuilders in Sun Belt markets. In Communications, IES designs and installs network infrastructure — cabling, fiber, and related systems — inside data centers for large technology, social media, and e-commerce companies, many of them Fortune 100 and 500 corporations. The smaller Infrastructure Solutions segment produces custom-engineered products such as generator enclosures and bus duct power distribution equipment, and provides industrial services including electric motor and generator repair. The Commercial & Industrial segment provides electrical and mechanical construction services for commercial buildings and industrial facilities. IES generates revenue primarily through competitively bid, labor-intensive project work, with profitability driven by labor productivity, accurate project bidding, and materials cost management. A smaller but growing portion of revenue comes from recurring maintenance contracts, particularly in Communications and Infrastructure Solutions. IES grows through organic market share gains and acquisitions, with the corporate office focused on capital allocation while segments manage day-to-day operations. The Communications segment has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by data center construction demand, and has nearly doubled its revenue share since FY23.
