DESCRIPTION

Bassett Furniture is a U.S.-based furniture manufacturer and retailer focused on custom upholstered furniture, wood furniture, casegoods (bedroom and dining), and outdoor furniture. Bassett's defining product is its True Custom Upholstery program, which lets customers configure sofas, chairs, and other upholstered pieces from a broad selection of fabrics and leathers, with production completed in Bassett's U.S. factories. Custom upholstery accounts for roughly 54% of retail sales and over 60% of wholesale sales. Bassett sells through two main channels: 57 company-owned Bassett Home Furnishings stores concentrated in Texas, Florida, the Southeast, and Northeast, where trained Design Consultants guide purchases and offer in-home design visits; and a wholesale channel serving 29 licensee-owned stores plus over 1,000 independent retail accounts. Bassett also sells through e-commerce. The retail segment captures additional margin by selling directly to consumers, while the wholesale segment manufactures and distributes to both the store network and independent dealers. About 77% of wholesale revenues come from U.S.-made products, with the remainder from imported goods, primarily sourced from Vietnam. Growth initiatives include new store openings, expansion of the Bassett Custom Studio concept (a capital-light, 1,000 sq ft custom upholstery format within third-party stores), growing the interior design trade channel, a new hospitality division, and e-commerce. Furniture demand is closely tied to home sales activity, and tariffs on imported goods and components represent an ongoing margin risk.
