DESCRIPTION

Valmont is a manufacturer of engineered metal structures and irrigation equipment, serving infrastructure and agricultural markets globally. The infrastructure segment, which makes up roughly 79% of revenue, covers utility structures (steel, concrete, and composite poles, towers, and substation components for electricity transmission and distribution), lighting and transportation poles, telecom towers and mounting components, hot-dip galvanizing services, and solar trackers. The utility product line is the largest and fastest-growing part of the business, driven by grid electrification, aging infrastructure replacement, and power demand from data centers and renewables. The agriculture segment, roughly 21% of revenue, is built around Valley-brand center-pivot and lateral-move irrigation systems, which cover 160 acres per machine and use less water than flood irrigation. Valmont also sells aftermarket parts and precision agriculture technology tools under its AgSense and Accent 365 platforms. Infrastructure products are sold via direct sales forces and agents, while irrigation equipment moves through a global independent dealer network of roughly 250 North American and 400 international locations. Utility structures are engineer-to-order and sold through competitive bids and preferred-provider arrangements with utilities. Agriculture revenue is highly cyclical, tracking farm income and crop prices, though aftermarket parts and tech subscriptions provide more stable recurring revenue. Valmont is investing heavily in brownfield utility capacity expansion, targeting over $100M in annual CapEx, with management arguing each incremental dollar generates more than $1 in annual revenue at incremental operating margins in the mid-to-upper 20% range.
