DESCRIPTION

Univest Financial is a community bank holding company headquartered in Souderton, Pennsylvania, serving individuals, businesses, municipalities, and non-profits across Southeastern, Central, and Western Pennsylvania, as well as parts of New Jersey and Maryland. Univest operates primarily through its subsidiary Univest Bank and Trust, which focuses on commercial and consumer lending and deposit gathering across 38 financial centers. Commercial real estate, C&I loans, and construction lending are the primary drivers of loan growth. Like most community banks, Univest earns a spread between interest collected on loans and interest paid on deposits, with NII making up roughly three-quarters of total revenue. Fee income — from wealth management, insurance commissions, SBA loan sales, mortgage banking, and treasury management — accounts for the remaining quarter. Beyond core banking, Univest runs two ancillary businesses: Girard, which provides investment advisory, brokerage, and pension consulting services; and Univest Insurance, an independent insurance agency. Univest's core markets are concentrated in Montgomery and Bucks counties, affluent suburban Philadelphia markets with above-average household incomes and low unemployment. The bank has been growing its lower-cost commercial deposit base to improve funding mix, and management targets modest expense growth to maintain efficiency. Univest returns excess capital primarily through buybacks, and management has shown limited appetite for bank M&A, preferring smaller non-bank acquisitions in insurance or wealth management.
