DESCRIPTION

Precision Drilling provides onshore contract drilling services to oil and natural gas E&P companies. Customers hire Precision to drill wells on their behalf — Precision supplies the rig and crew, while the customer designs the drilling program. Precision's core product is its "Super Series" fleet of land drilling rigs, purpose-built for multi-well pad drilling. The flagship Super Triple rig is suited for large-pad horizontal drilling, while the Super Single targets Canadian heavy oil plays. Both rig types are offered with Precision's Alpha automation technology and EverGreen emissions-reduction solutions as add-ons to the base day rate. Precision earns revenue on a daywork basis — customers pay a contracted day rate for each day the rig operates. Revenue and earnings are driven by rig utilization, day rates, and rig mix. Precision operates two segments: Contract Drilling Services (~85% of revenue), covering rigs in Canada, the U.S., Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia; and Completion and Production Services (~15% of revenue), covering well completion, workover, and abandonment services in Canada. Precision's cost structure has a meaningful fixed component, creating operating leverage as rig count rises or falls. The company's financial strategy has centered on debt reduction, targeting $700M in total debt reduction between 2022 and 2027, alongside allocating 35–45% of free cash flow to share repurchases. As leverage approaches its target, management has signaled a gradual shift toward rig upgrades and tuck-in acquisitions.
