DESCRIPTION

Astrotech is a small, early-stage company built around a proprietary mass spectrometry platform — the AMS Technology — originally developed for air quality monitoring on the International Space Station. Astrotech commercializes this technology across multiple verticals through dedicated subsidiaries, all of which license the core IP from a central holding entity. The only subsidiary generating meaningful revenue today is 1st Detect, which makes the TRACER 1000, a field-deployable explosive and narcotic trace detector used at airports, cargo hubs, border checkpoints, and military bases. The TRACER 1000 has been deployed across roughly 34 locations in 16 countries. Astrotech sells instruments and generates recurring revenue from consumables and service contracts. The company's other subsidiaries — AgLAB (cannabis distillation optimization), Pro-Control (industrial process control), and EN-SCAN (portable environmental testing) — are in early development stages, while BreathTech (breath-based disease screening) has been effectively paused given the long FDA regulatory pathway. Astrotech's growth strategy centers on advancing TSA checkpoint certification for the TRACER 1000, which would open access to the large U.S. airport screening market, while continuing international expansion in parallel. For AgLAB and Pro-Control, the company is pursuing field trials and channel partnerships to build commercial scale. With only 32 employees and multiple subsidiaries at early stages, Astrotech remains a lean, R&D-intensive business with most of its commercial potential still ahead of it.
